The short version

Your files never leave your device. FreeTranscribe's transcription runs entirely inside your web browser using WebAssembly. We do not receive, store, or have any ability to access the videos or audio files you transcribe, nor the transcripts they produce.

What happens to your files

• Files you select are read locally by your browser. They are never transmitted to our servers; we don't have servers that could receive them.
• The AI model and speech engine are downloaded to your browser from public content networks (Hugging Face and jsDelivr, falling back to this website) and cached locally. These are one-way downloads of standard files. Your audio is never sent anywhere: it flows into the model on your device only.
• Transcripts exist only on your device unless you copy or save them somewhere yourself.

Advertising

FreeTranscribe is free and supported by advertising. Ads never have access to your files or transcripts: those stay within the page's local processing and are not shared with any third party.

• Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites.
• Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the Internet. Learn more about how Google uses data from sites that use its services.
• You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings, or opt out of some other vendors' use of cookies at aboutads.info.
• Other ad networks we work with may likewise use cookies or similar technologies to serve and measure ads, under their own privacy policies.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics to understand how the site is used: pages visited, approximate location, device and browser type, and tool events such as "transcription started" or "transcript downloaded" along with coarse details (file type, file size, audio length, which accuracy setting was chosen). Google Analytics uses cookies to tell visits apart. It never receives your file names, your audio, or your transcript text.
