Got a video in a language you don’t speak? FreeTranscribe listens to the original speech and writes it out directly in English, as plain text or as timed English subtitles you can load into any player.
This page starts with “Translate to English” selected. The translation happens on your device, so the video is never uploaded.
How to get the best English translation
- Set the spoken language if you know it. Auto-detect works, but naming the language helps on short or noisy clips.
- Use the “Accurate” setting; translation benefits from the larger model even more than transcription does.
- Treat it as a fast, rough translation. It’s great for understanding a video or making draft subtitles; for publication, have a fluent speaker review it.
Want subtitles in the original language instead?
Switch Output to “Original language” to get subtitles in the language being spoken, for example Spanish subtitles for a Spanish video.

Frequently asked questions
Which languages can it translate from?
About 100, including Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Russian, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Hindi, Arabic, Turkish, and Indonesian. Quality is best for widely spoken languages.
Can it translate English into other languages?
Not yet. The speech model translates into English only. You can transcribe the English and paste the text into a translator.
Do the English subtitles keep the original timing?
Yes. Each English caption is timed to the speech it translates, so it lines up with the video.
