Built-in meeting transcripts depend on your organization’s plan and admin settings, and often nobody switched them on before hitting record. If you have the recording, FreeTranscribe turns it into text for free, without sending the meeting to another company’s servers.

Getting the recording file
- Microsoft Teams: recordings are stored in OneDrive (regular meetings) or SharePoint (channel meetings). Open the recording from the meeting chat and use Download to get the MP4.
- Google Meet: recordings go to the organizer’s Google Drive, in a folder called “Meet Recordings”. Open it in Drive and choose Download.
- Can’t download it? Ask whoever recorded or organized the meeting, since the file lives in their account.
Tips
- Keep “Accurate” selected for multi-person calls.
- Speaker names aren’t detected; use the timestamps to find who spoke when.
- The MP4 works directly. There’s no need to extract the audio first.

Frequently asked questions
Does this work if Teams transcription is turned off by my admin?
Yes. FreeTranscribe only needs the recording file; it doesn’t connect to Teams or Google at all.
Is the meeting uploaded anywhere?
No. The AI model downloads to your browser and processes the recording on your computer. Nothing about the meeting is sent to us.
Can I transcribe a live meeting?
Not yet. It transcribes recordings: record the meeting, then drop the file in afterwards.
